Considering a Place for Your Pet in the Kitchen?
Challenge
We were working with our customer in Ridgefield, CT to re-design her kitchen pantry and desk area, when she mentioned her desire for a space where her 2 dogs could sleep and hang out. We loved this idea and started our design on the "puppy nook" to incorporate into her custom cabinet refacing project!
Solution
To achieve the look, we framed out the un-used knee area of the desk, installed a pre-finished frame with beaded arch to the opening and built an elevated floor to house a custom sized bed for the pups. We are always open to new, innovative design ideas to create a personalized dream kitchen for each of our customers!
The Rub Through Effect: Soft White on
Natural Cherry custom Cabinets
If you’re looking for the clean white custom cabinet look, consider adding a rub-through effect. To complement the exposed dark beams throughout the kitchen and family room, our client chose a traditional raised panel door in solid natural cherry. We dressed up the sides with soft white beadboard and then finished off the cabinets with large, elegant crown moulding.
The point of interest here is the gentle, rub through effect on the soft white cabinet doors and drawers. By selecting this finishing effect, cabinets will wear more gracefully and provide a warm aged look.
In this closer shot below, you can see the peak of natural cherry underneath the white which also creates a dramatic corner for a distinguished look.
The exposed hinges in antique pewter completes the look and beautifully ties in the dark wood in the beams and rustic charm of the wood floors.
When thinking about your own cabinet renovation choices, white cabinetry is such a timeless and classic look. However, if you want something a bit different from the stream-lined white shaker look, consider techniques such as rub-through and light distressing. Pairing darker hardware (such as an oil-rubbed bronze or pewter) can further achieve an elegant weathered look to any kitchen!
